Former Member of Parliament for Sheema South; Prof.Elijah Dickens Mushemeza has blamed setback of tourism industry in Uganda on unnecessary excessive force government used when UPDF attacked Rwenzururu kingdom palace in Kasese in November 2016.
Prof.Mushemeza made the remarks this week while at a public lecture organized by Ankole Western University in Sheema Municipality.
He said since the attack on Rwenzururu kingdom palace, a number of foreign tourists cancelled their flights to Uganda hence a hindrance to tourism industry.
Mushemeza who is also former deputy chairman NRM electoral commission said the government did not calculate consequences before the UPDF attacked the Rwenzururu kingdom palace where over 100 royal guards were killed and others arrested.
The UPDF operation in Kasese ended up arresting the Rwenzururu King Charles Wisley Mumbere and torching his palace.
Mumbere along many people suspected to be his royal guards was taken to court where he was charged with crimes ranging from treason to murder.
Since then King Wisley Mumbere has not been allowed to step in Kasese district despite his release from Luzira government maximum prison.
