In Mubende—
The Police Flying Squad has rescued a four-year-old girl who was kidnapped on March 22.
Desire Resty Kahunde was taken hostage as she walked to St Michael Nursery School in Kyenjojo District for studies.
It’s alleged the kidnap was conducted by a 2010 Boda Boda group rider identified as Yusuf Atuhaire operating from clocktower stage in Rwamukora, Kyenjojo District.
Police officials said Kahunde was hidden in Butumi Village, Kiyuni sub-county, Mubende district.
Police Flying Squad commander; Herbert Muhangi says they arrested the suspect in the kidnap. However, he referred the www.mknewslink.com reporter to police spokesperson for details. Muhangi added that the disappearance of the girl had caused unease in the country amid increased kidnaps of women.
Susan Magara, a businesswoman, was recently killed after the kidnappers took ransom from her parents.
Kahunde is a daughter of Beatrice Kahunde and Samuel Mugyenyi.
Police officials said the suspect in the kidnap was arrested from Kyenjojo before leading detectives to Mubende where Kahunde was hidden.
“Atuhaire did not attempt to resist arrest,” said an official, adding, “We got him through tracking which enabled us to get to the target unexpectedly.”
The suspect will now have to answer possible charges of kidnap and threatening violence among others.
Kahunde has since been reunited with her family members.
