KIGEZI NRM MPS DEFY DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE SUMMONS

Some National Resistance Movement (NRM) legislators form Kigezi region who voted against the age limit bill, have vowed not to appear before party’s disciplinary committee.
Last week the NRM Caucus Spokesperson Solomon Sirwanyi said that
party was to summon lawmakers who went against the party position rejecting the Constitutional Amendment Bill to the disciplinary committee for spreading falsehoods and being traitors.
At least 22 of the 92 legislators who voted against the amendment belong to the ruling NRM party. The Constitutional Amendment Bill, which was yesterday assented by president Museveni will allow leaders to contest the presidency beyond the age of 75. The bill also reintroduced term limits and extended term of legislators to 7 years.
They include among others are Sam Lyomoki, Hellen Kahunde, Connie Nakayenze Galiwango, Norah Bigirwa, Anthony Ssemuli, Suzan Amero, Loy Katali, Monica Amoding, Sylvia Rwabogo and Henry Maurice Kibalya, Theodore Sekikubo, James Nigirimana Kaberuka, Denis Sabiti, Bernabas Tinkasimiire.
The Rubanda west legislator Hon Denis Sabiti says that he will not appear before the disciplinary committee because he represented the views of his constituents.
The Kinkizi West MP Hon James Nigirimana Kaberuka says that the bill was initiated by the Igara west legislator;Mr. Raphael Magyezi and President Yoweri Museveni and being private member’s Bill it was his right to oppose it or not.
