KIGEZI POLICE ATTRIBUTES CASES OF MURDER TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE .

Police in Kigezi region has raised an alarm over the high rates of domestic violence that have resulted into cases of murder in the region.
This was revealed at the pipping ceremony of 15 police officers in kigezi sub religion at the rank of SSP and ASP that was held at Kirigime guest house in southern Division kabale Municipality.
Out of 15, Ten where promoted to a rank of SSP and Five to a rank of Asp
Speaking to our reporter after the ceremony, the Kigezi region police commander SSP Hajj Saiga Ibrahim said that in most families, fights are always witnessed when it comes to sharing property of the deceased.
He called upon religious leaders to intervene and sensitize the public on how to share the deceased’s properties saying that there is moral decay in the community.
The Kigezi region police spokesperson Asp Elly Mate said that most of the cases of murders they register are from domestic violence and land conflict related cases.
Matte also called for cooperation from the community if they are to end crime in the society.
According to the kigezi region police spokesperson, police stations register an average of 2-3-4 cases of Domestic Violence per day and in a week every district in Kigezi registers a case of murder resulting from family violence and land conflict related cases.
