In Kikuube—-
There was drama during the council sitting for Kikuube district on Wednesday afternoon after councilors protested the appointment of Ignatius Muganyizi, a resident of Kabwoya sub-county as district land board chairman.
Trouble started when Alpha Vicente Opio, the district vice chairperson and leader of government business presented the nominees of the land board committee who included; Muganyizi as chairperson, Tusabe Tibeyita, Sarah Atagwirweho, Barihamwe Muzamil and Peterson Kyomuhendo.
After presenting the names, Nesitori Tuwesige, the councilor for Kyangwali Sub County quickly seconded the appointment of the nominees.
However, Alex Byesi Kabusomba, the councilor for Kabwoya Sub County stood up and raised an objection against the board chairperson nominee Muganyizi.
As Kabusomba gave his submission, the council speaker Chris Nkaru interrupted him and ordered him to sit down which he ignored leading to a standoff for over 10 minutes.
The speaker shortly after the standoff suspended Kabusomba from the council and ordered the sergeant at arm to throw him out of the council.
This angered most of the councilors who turned against the speaker as they accused him and the executive of being biased and corrupt.
The councilors unanimously started moving out of council in protest of the speaker’s decision.
Minutes later, the former district chairman and now Buhaguzi County MP Francis Kazini was seen advising the speaker Nkalu to allow councilors make submissions on why they were against the nomination of Muganyizi.
Later, the councilors were cooled down and Kabusomba asked to continue with his submission. He accused Muganyizi of lack of integrity.
Kabusomba who was carrying over four petitions from residents of Kabwoya Sub County against Muganyizi, said during the time when Muganyizi was area land committee chairman, he connived with tycoons to grab people’s land.
Councilors Annette Asera, representing Bugambe sub-county, Susan Kasindi of Buhimba town council and Agnes Mukooto supported Kabusomba saying Kikuube district needs a land board chairman who will fight for the land rights of the public.
Amlan Tumusiime, the Kikuube Resident District Commissioner commended the councilors for speaking the truth and fighting for the poor adding that his office has several land related complaints against Muganyizi.
Later, the Speaker Nkalu who had insisted on the approval of Muganyizi was overpowered by the Councillors and agreed to omit Muganyizi from the committee.
