Kanungu Deputy Resident District Commissioner Gad Ahimbisibwe Rugaju has assured the leaders of Kanungu District that the government is committed to ensure that all Presidential initiated projects are operational to benefit the intended beneficiaries.
Gad Ahimbisibwe Rugaju made the assurance today after an inspection tour of two irrigation schemes in Kameme and Matanda villages in Kihihi Sub County which are under construction.
Kameme Irrigation Scheme was constructed under the Presidential Initiative at a cost of Ugx 3 billion while Matanda Irrigation Scheme is being funded by Ministry of Water and Environment at a cost of Ugx 375 million.
Deputy RDC Gad Rugaju said that the two schemes are part of the many pledges President Museveni promised the people of Kihihi Sub County and he will ensure that they are fully completed to help the people to increase their farming.
Rugaju dispelled wrong information which has been circulating that Kameme Irrigation Scheme had failed to work saying that it has since been established that it was a technical issue which has been worked on by the Ministry of Water and it will soon start operating.
He however asked the farmers in Kameme and Matanda to appreciate the government projects like the irrigation and ensure that they are not vandalized .
The Deputy RDC said that he was disappointed with some farmers who do bush burning in Kameme and end up destroying the plastic pipes of the irrigation systems.
Kihihi Sub County LC 3 Chairperson Nelson Natukunda who guided the Deputy RDC around the schemes said that the people of Kihihi were grateful to the government for giving them the irrigation schemes and they are ready to use them maximally.
