KIRYANDONGO SUGAR CO. TRUCK KNOCKS TWO DEAD IN MASINDI

Police in Masindi district are investigating circumstances under which a sugarcane truck registration number UBK 072D belonging to Kiryandongo Sugar Ltd knocked two people dead.
According to the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson Julius Allan Hakiza, the incident occurred on Tuesday at Kyema trading centre in Masindi Municipality along Masindi – Kigumba road at around 19:20hours.
He only identified the deceased persons as Steven and Mafuta who were riding motorcycle registration number UET 311E heading to Masindi town.
“They had a head-on collision while traveling in the opposite direction. Those who were on the motorcycle died on spot and the driver is currently on the run,” he explained.
Hakiza asserted that the deceased were taken to Masindi general hospital mortuary while the vehicle and the motorcycle were conveyed to Masindi Central Police Station.
The police mouthpiece attributed the incident to over speeding and reckless riding and driving since it happened at the corner.
The Kiryandongo Sugar Ltd Communications Manager Jonan Masagazi confirmed that the vehicle that killed two people belongs to their company.
“It’s true the vehicle belongs to our company, but we are following up with the matter,” he confirmed.
