A section of NRM leaders in Kisoro have declared that they will not support honorable Eddy Kwizera Wa Gahungu in the forthcoming Bukimbiri county parliamentary by-elections. This was revealed by NRM spokesperson Emmanuel Lumala Dombo.
Hon Emmanuel Dombo made the revelation during Kisoro opinion leaders forum meeting held on Wednesday at 3-way Gorilla resort hotel in Kisoro municipality.
He said that as he was coming to Kisoro district to canvass votes for NRM flag bearer, he called NRM leaders and that some declared that they will not support honorable Eddy Kwizera because of different reasons.
Hon Emmanuel Dombo mentioned honorable Nizeyimana John Kamara and Dr. James Nsaba Buturo as some NRM leaders who have told him off that they will not in any way support hon Eddy Kwizera Wa Gahungu in the forthcoming Bukimbiri county byelections. He called for harmony and reconciliation among NRM leaders in Kisoro district.
Emmanuel Dombo also revealed that he talked to hon Turyagyenda Asigario purposely to interface such that if he goes through in the Bukimbiri county byelections, NRM can know the person they will be working with and if he fails to go through, the party can identify where to begin reconciliation.
He also noted that of recent president Museveni called for a meeting in state house of all independent candidates in the byelections across the country and only two youth from Kisoro attended the meeting. He wonders why honorable Asigario didn’t attend the meeting.
Speaking to our reporter on a phone interview, honorable Dr. James Nsaba Buturo accepted that he is not supporting hon Eddy Kwizera Wa Gahungo saying he is not the right Candidate basing on personal assessment and on issues affecting people of Kisoro. He also said that the two candidates belong NRM party and choice should be left for people of Bukimbiri to choose their leaders.
Bufumbira north MP honorable Nizeyimana John Kamara revealed that Kisoro opinion leaders’ forum has written to NRM party secretariat requesting president Museveni and the party at large not to interfere with Bukimbira county byelections. He claims that both Asigario and Eddy Kwizera Wa Gahungu belong to NRM and the party should leave a leveled ground for the two candidates.
He also explained that honorable Kwizera Wa Gahungu at one time contested as an independent and has no moral authority to despise Asigario. He warns that if NRM sides with Eddy Kwizera Wa Gahungu, it will create tension in the district.
Canon Philp Muhire who is also a members of Kisoro opinion leaders’ forum said residents in Kisoro district are disgruntled due to unfulfilled presidential pledges.
He asked NRM party to leave voters in Bukimbiri choose their leader through ballot paper without interference
