KISORO RETURNING OFFICER CLARIFIES ONTALLY CENTRE FOR THE BUKIMBIRI BYE-ELECTION
The Kisoro district Returning officer, Nayebare Daniel yesterday dismissed rumours that the Bukimbir bye election tally centre is to be positioned in Kirundo Sub County.
He said that the tally center is to be positioned at Hope mission facility in Rubuguri town council.
A section of candidates in the Bukimbiri bye-election had started criticizing electoral commission for deciding to move the tally centre to Kirundo yet the area is not well connected to electricity an issue that would subject vote counting to rigging especially at night.
Among the first candidates to attack the electoral commission is the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC’s) Owebeyi James aka Icumu’Ryabukimbiri and the NRM leaning independent Candidate Asgariyo Turyagyenda.
According to Owebeyi James, electoral commission should ensure that the selected place for a tally centre should be well organised, accessible, and with proper electrification so that there is no chance of
vote rigging.
He also questioned the presence of state vehicles, army and police detaches that have been established in Rubuguri town council.
Turyagyenda Asgariyo said that Kirundo is still undeveloped and demanded that the tally centre be placed in Rubuguri for transparency to prevail.
However, Nayebare Daniel says that the allegations are false adding that Hope Mission facility in Rubuguri town council has been selected.
He called upon all candidates to attend a pre-election meeting on 10 th August in order for them to be updated on the electoral process.
He asked for a peaceful campaign period among all candidates.
Meanwhile, He says that security is part and parcel of the election, especially police but the creation of new UPDF detaches in Rubuguri could be due to insecurity in the neighbouring DR. Congo.
