KYANKWANZI DISTRICT VETERINARY OFFICER ARRESTED FOR OPERATING UNLICENSED DRUG OUTLET

The Kyankwanzi district veterinary officer Dr. Moses Achong has been arrested for allegedly operating unlicensed drug outlet in Mbaali village, Nsambya Sub County in Kyankwanzi district.
Dr. Achong has been arrested by National drug officials from the national headquarters during an operation aimed at cracking down dealers of counterfeit drugs and operators of unlicensed drug outlets in western region.
His arrest followed that of Augustine Ssematimba, a senior six vacist and employee to Dr. Achong who was found working in Mbaali farmers Contact Centre veterinary drug shop located in Mbaale market.
Upon arrest, Ssematimba revealed to NDA officials that the drug shop is owned by the Kyankwanzi district veterinary officer Dr. Moses Achong.
Dr. Bernard Ssemwomu one of the NDA officials said that the crackdown is aimed at eliminating illegal drugs on the market that are resulting into drug resistant ticks and diseases.
However, Dr. Moses Achong has denied knowing the suspect adding that as a DVO, his mandate is to authorize drug shops whose owners present the required documents for approval but NDA is the one responsible for the drugs in the shops.

A case has been opened on both of them on file number CRB 145/24/2021at Kyankwanzi police station and will be taken to court to answer to their charges after investigations are done.
