In Kyegegwa
Kyegegwa Magistrate’s Court has dismissed an election petition challenging the victory of Ambrose Nyehikyire in the Buterevu B LC1 chairperson election, with counsel Shaban Balintuma leading the legal representation for the respondents.
The election was held on July 28, 2026, in Buterevu B, Nkaakwa Parish, Nkaakwa Sub-county, Kyegegwa District, where Nyehikyire Ambrose was declared the winner after contesting against Edrisa Takwasire.
Dissatisfied with the outcome, Edrisa filed an election petition challenging the result and named Nyehikyire and the Electoral Commission as respondents.
During the proceedings before the Kyegegwa Magistrate’s Court, counsel Balintuma represented the respondents, defending the election outcome and the position of his clients. Edrisa was represented by Counsel Brian Kugonza.
In a ruling delivered yesterday, Tuesday, October 6, 2026, the court dismissed the petition, leaving the election result in favor of Nyehikyire Ambrose intact.
The decision means that Nyehikyire Ambrose retains the Buterevu B LC1 chairpersonship, following the court’s determination of the election dispute.
For Counsel Balintuma, the dismissal marks a successful conclusion to the legal defence of the respondents in the petition.
The case had drawn attention in Buterevu B, with residents awaiting the court’s decision following the disputed July 28 LC1 election.
The dismissal brings the petition before the Magistrate’s Court to a close, subject to any further legal steps that may be available to the parties under the law.
