Kyenjojo Hospital is struggling to provide quality health care due to lack of key specialists.
The hospital lacks a surgeon, gynecologist, pediatrician, and anesthetists.
According to the Bruce Rwampunda, the Kyenjojo Hospital Senior Administrator, they have been asking the district authorities to ensure the specialists are recruited, but in vain.
Rwampunda said that due to lack of the specialists, many patients are referred to Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital.
He further explained that they have also attempted to advertise for the positions but they fail to attract applicants or those that apply lack the qualifications.
According to Rwampunda, whereas their health facility is meant to have three anesthetists, it currently has one.
Irene Kengozi, the Kyenjojo Assistant Chief Administrative Officer said that they are aware of the lack of the specialists but are hampered by several challenges including lack of adequate funds.
She, however, said that they have already advertised for the position of anesthetists while they plan to advertise for other positions.
Isaac Asingura, a parent at the paediatric ward said that the lack of specialists has increased the costs of treating their children revealing that his son required operation, but was referred to Fort Portal for further treatment.
He wants the government to intervene and ensure the specialists are recruited.
