KYENJOJO SUGAR FACTORY TRUCKS IMPOUNDED OVER THEFT OF KINYARA CANES

Four sugarcane trucks were on Wednesday impounded in Butobe Cell Nyangahya Division in Masindi Municipality while ferrying sugarcanes belonging to Kinyara Sugar Limited.
The TATA lorries registration numbers UBH009Q, UBJ152G, UBJ150G, and UBG578X were intercepted by the security of Kinyara Sugar Limited on Tuesday at around 11:45hours.
The said trucks had poached sugarcanes equivalent to 90 tonnes worth UGX7, 956,000 at the point of arrest.
The canes were poached from field 4 and 8 Butobe Estate, Butobe Cell Nyanghya Division in Masindi Municipality.
One of the drivers identified as Musa Kamihinda attached to the truck registration number UBH009Q is under police custody whereas three other drivers are on run, and 15 loaders fled the crime scene.
The trucks whose ownership is not yet conclusively established were found in possession of three sugarcane permits belonging to Kyenjojo Sugar Industries Limited bearing the names of Geoffrey Abigaba as the supplier.
Richard Wanok the Communications Manager Kinyara Sugar Limited told our reporter that the case has been reported at Masindi Central Police Station for investigations and the trucks are parked the police.
He noted that they shall continue to operate with the police to ensure that such perpetrators are brought to book.
When contacted on phone, Fred Mwesigwa who declined to reveal his status at Kyenjojo Sugar Industries Limited told our reporter that the person responsible is on the way to secure the impounded vehicles.
Julius Hakiza the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson confirmed the impounding of the sugarcane trucks suspecting to have been ferrying sugarcanes belonging to Kinyara Sugar Limited, and the driver is in the police custody.
