Marine police attached to Sebigoro detach in Kikuube district has suspended the search for bodies from the Lake Albert boat accident which occurred on May 24th, 2020.
The accident occurred when a boat sailing to Sebigoro Landing Site, carrying 18 passengers capsized near Ususa Landing Site in Kabwoya sub-county, Kikuube district.
Onboard were some of the people who have been forcefully evicted by Uganda People’s Defence Forces-UPDF soldiers from Kyenyanja Landing Site which is said to be one of the illegal landing sites in the area.
Only three bodies were retrieved following the accident.
Robert Ngabirano, the officer in charge of Marine police in Kikuube and Hoima districts says that they have decided to suspend the search after sighting no other bodies over the past week.
Ngabirano adds that they suspect that the number of the people that were onboard was concocted to bring fear within the officers enforcing the eviction directives.
