LC 1 ELECTIONS: GHOST VOTERS DETECTED IN IBANDA, NTUNGAMO

In Ntungamo, Ibanda
The LC I election in Ntungamo District has experienced low turn up and delay due to fear of conflicts of interest and vote rigging.
According to Moses Namanya who was standing as chairman cell 4 Ntungamo municipalities accuse the electoral officials adding names in voters register where he was defeated by Julius Sanga on FDC ticket with 21 votes by 14 votes.
At Kyanju I Wilson Mukungu who has been the LCI for over 20 years maintained his seat after defeating FDC member Byaruhanga Obadia Muhogo with land slide victory of 134 votes to 8 votes.
In Itojo trading center cell was won by Mugisha Kyafaayo independent defeating NRM Japheth Begumisa and Benimugisha Alex.
At Cell 6, the former Journalist with Radio Ankole Ntungamo Gumisiriza Gordon was declared winner defeating NRM Kaparata Swaib with 48 votes by 19 votes.
At Municipal ground where three cells vote from there were confusion where candidates accuse each other using voters who not residents of the area.
This forced DPC Ntungamo Katwesiime Damiano and security agencies to swing into action to calm the situation.
In Ibanda, the turn up was fair as the residents were exited and ready to line up behind their candidates and supported them without fear or being intimidated.
During voting exercise, there was confusion and violence in some
voting villages.
At Ibanda central cell, in Kyaruhanga ward, Kagongo division in Ibanda municipality there was tension between the voters of Moses Rubiito Muhairwe (NRM) and of Frank Karemeera (Independent) after sensing ghost voters who were not eligible to vote from their cell.
According Christopher Kafura Tibanyendera, the Sub county supervisor Kagongo division, Muhairwe decided to withdraw from the race immediately after sensing the ghost voters from the registers. The supporters of Mr. Muhairwe matched a way in protest and went home without voting.
The police was called to calm the situation as the voting exercise went smoothly at Ibanda Integrated primary play ground.
Police was heavily deployed in Kanyansheko, Kikandure and Kanyansheko B villages in Kyaruhanga ward,Kagongo division in Ibanda municipality to control the situation.
By the press time, NRM candidates were leading followed by
Independents and FDC respectively.
