LIGHTNING KILLS PUPIL, LEAVES 30 OTHERS, TEACHERS INJURED IN IBANDA

In Ibanda
One pupil at Muziza Central primary school in Bisheeshe division, Ibanda district was yesterday struck dead by the lightning while other 3O pupils and four teachers of P6, P7 were severally injured.
The incident happened yesterday during a heavy
rain that lasted for 30 minutes as the children were attending afternoon
classes.
The deceased has been identified as
Asumani Ndyabahika, a primary six
pupil who died instantly.
Some parents who rushed to the scene described the
incident as
shocking and horrible.
The
Ibanda Resident District Commissioner Eliasto Akatuheebwa who visited the scene
shortly after the incident, blamed the contractor who installed the lightning conductor noting
that he put it on the highest part of a building thus could not work
effectively.
Akatuheebwa alleged that the conductor could have been fake adding that his office is going to investigate the contractor for installing fake lightning conductors.
