LOW AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION CITED AS LEAD CAUSE OF MALNUTRITION, FOOD INSECURITY

Food insecurity and malnutrition in Bushenyi has been attributed to failure by the majority to contribute active to the agricultural production.
Addressing head teachers, sub county chiefs, health centre in charges, district councilors and councilors for Bushenyi Ishaka municipality in a district food security and nutrition forum at the Bushenyi municipal multipurpose hall today, Gordon Arinda ‘cowboy’ the area MP noted that few people are engaged in production compared to the population that consume the output.
The forum was aimed at laying strategies to bring malnutrition and food insecurity to an end in Bushenyi
He added that with this, the output cannot satisfy the population leading to lack of enough food thus food insecurity a factor that brings about malnutrition.
He also noted that even those who have availability and accessibility to food do not take it in the required procedure and quantity.
Jaffari Bassajabalaba, the chairman Bushenyi district blamed this disaster on sales of the best products leaving behind the remains for the family to consume.
He called upon the leaders present to sensitize the public on malnutrition and create awareness.
He added that they should encourage food storage to reduce insecurity that is a threat to most homes in Bushenyi.
Bushenyi is profiled among the top ten districts with many cases of malnutrition with the leading sub counties of Bitooma, Ibaare Kyamuhunga and Central division.
