St Gerald’s SS students in Rukungiri District have petitioned to
the Resident District Commissioner RDC Mr. Martin Mugabe over the
continued attacks by their neighbor Makobore High School students.
The angry St Gerald’s students yesterday peacefully matched from
their school located at Nyakibale in Rukungiri municipality about one
and half kilometer to office of the RDC to express their anger with
banners reading “we are tired of Makobore boys, we are tired of
government, we need our freedom, what’s wrong with Makobore, RDC we
need a solution”.
St Gerald’s Students accuse Makobore students of the continued harassment, beating them up and destroying of their school property.
The two schools have been rivals and last year in July when St Gerald’s teachers’ hostels and the administration blocks were burnt down leaving everything in school office destroyed, both schools were closed following external strikes by students accusing each other of attacks and five students from both schools were arrested as principal suspects.
According to the students’ leaders at St Gerald’s Ss Muramuzi Alex and Kushaba Allen, since Friday 8th June 2018 up to Monday 11th June 2018 a total of five students have been beaten seriously, critically injured and they have been admitted at Case clinic and St. Karoli Lwanga Hospital Nyakibale.
Administration Makobole high school couldn’t comment on the
allegations but they had also had about the matter.
Meanwhile, police have been deployed at St Gerald’s Ss since Friday last week but that wasn’t enough to stop the attacks. Three Makobore students have already been arrested.
The RDC Rukungiri district Mr. Martin Mugabe promised to meet both the
administrators of the schools so that their concerns are solved.
The DPC Rukungiri district Moses Nanoka asked St Gerald’s Ss
students to remain calm as police are investigating into their matter.
