MAN ARRESTED IN KANUNGU FOR RESISTING TO IMMUNISE CHILDREN

Security authorities in Kanungu district yesterday arrested a man for denying his children a right to immunization in the mass Measles Rubella and polio immunization.
Bigombe Gard a resident of Kyakatarangi cell in Rushoroza parish Kihihi sub county Kanungu district was arrested by Kanungu RDC Hajji Shafiq Sekandi Sengooba for refusing to take his children for immunisation under the pretext that his religious beliefs do not allow such.
He was detained at Kihihi police station while his other accomplice, Johnson Komunda later allowed his children to be immunised.
Nine children including three who had dodged the immunization exercise were picked from both Kayembe parents school and Kyakatarangi primary school, driven to Matanda health centre III where they were immunised at around 5:00 pm.
Speaking to www.mknewslink.com reporter, Kanungu RDC Hajji Shafiq Sekandi Sengooba said that they cannot allow an individual to interfere with a government programe which is for the good of everyone.
Nelson Natukunda, the LC III chairperson Kihihi sub county welcomed the arrest of Bigombe Gard saying he has always been against many government programmes, having previously failed to register for the national identity card.
He warned that this will serve as a warning to all those sabotaging government programmes.
