In Masindi—
Praise Ochanda the Masindi Focal Person for Uganda Society for Disabled Children – USDC has revealed that at least 60% of the disabled children in Masindi district are not schooling.
Speaking to our reporter in his office, Ochanda explained that they have only two special schools in the district, while some parents can’t afford taking their children for studies.
“Most children with minor disabilities are schooling, but those with serious disabilities are not schooling, some of them lack supporting devices like wheelchairs, spectacles, and others,” He noted.
He boasted that through forming Child Rights Clubs – CRC in schools, the rate of discriminating the disabled has reduced by 70%.
He regrettably noted that most parents use the disabled children as source of income by parading them in public to beg for money from people.
“The disabled children also have their rights including education, parents who are violating the rights of these children will be arrested, and taken to courts of law,” William Mwambu the disabled representative warned.
