Vendors at Masindi central Market are complaining over the stinking garbage which has become incontrollable.
The vendors are accusing Masindi Municipal officials of putting the collection point in the middle of market and yet they cannot manage it at all.
Vicent Ssendagire, a vendor at Masindi central market said that garbage in central market is heaping day and night but no one is coming to their rescue. Ssendagire added that the rate at which garbage is stinking is worrying.
He also said that maggots keep on loitering around the market and customers have now shunned the market. The garbage has taken more than a week without being collected.
Robinah Rwabwengo, also a vendor explained that they are worried because they may contract diseases like cholera and diarrhoea due to the maggots and flies which have become uncontrollable.
Alice Kujunwa, also a vendor said that for them they want municipal authorities to remove the collection point from the middle of the market and take it to any other place since they dont collect the garbage in time.
The vendors also expressed concern over their taxes paid explaining that they dont see the relevance of paying taxes since they dont get the services they pay taxes for. They added the tax collectors come for taxes before the month ends and fail to collect the garbage in time.
When contacted the Mayor Masindi Municipality,Joab Businge, noted that they are working around the clock to ensure that the situation is rectified adding that the problem has been caused by the breaking down of the trucks.
Businge said that the vehicles were taken to the garage today and by Thursday they will have responded to the problem.
