MASINDI CIVIL SERVANTS THREATEN TO STRIKE OVER DELAYED SALARIES

Local Government civil servants in masindi district are grumbling over their long time delayed salaries from the government.
According to sources in Masindi district local government headquarters that preferred anonymity speaking to www.mknewslink.com reporter, the civil servants are demanding April salary and also in fear that they may not be paid May salary soon.
The source added that the worst hit civil servants are now pondering their next move over the unpaid salary.
Some civil servants are said to be escaping from work to evade bankloan officers and money lenders whom they had promised to pay in one month.
Denis Tumwine who is the District Councilor for Workers also acknowledged the delayed payment for civil servants and threatened to join others to stage an industrial action if salary is not paid within one week.
The district secretary for finance and planning at the same time the secretary for education; Salama Kugonza blamed the delay on some district civil servants who did not submit the quarterly reports to the central government which resulted into blocking of funding by the ministry of finance.
According to the district Chief Administrative officer (CAO) Godfrey Nyakahuma, the salary had not been paid because the central government did not send it.
He revealed that over 63 districts across the country have been affected by the delay adding that Masindi district was finalizing with the documents required by central government and he was optimistic the money will be released before the end of this week.
