MASINDI CLINICS, LABORATORIES CLOSED OVER POOR STANDARDS, LACK OF LICENCE

Officials from Allied Health Professional council under Ministry of Health have closed several clinics in Masindi town for failure to comply with the set minimum required standards.
The officials headed by the officer from National Quality Assurance (Diagnostic services) Ministry of Health, Charles Nahabwe Kahwa, on Wednesday closed five clinics in Kijura trading centre and Masindi town and closed the laboratories of three other clinics.
According to the Laboratory focal person for Masindi district Peter Tigambirwa who also accompanied the team of officials, as the operation entered the second day. Among the visited clinics include Kitara Medical center which passed all the tests.
Tigambirwa named the clinics which have been totally closed as Wananchi clinic, Ngomokwe Nursing Home, Masters Doctors Clinic, Morning Glory clinic inKijura, and Rihobos clinic also in Kijura.
The clinics whose laboratories were closed and left with only clinics are Walabyeki medical center, and Nyamigisa clinic.
All the closed facilities had no current operational licenses from Uganda Medical and dental practitioners council the regulator of all medical professionals in the country.
Kahwa, said it is their mandate to ensure that Ugandans gets good quality services.
At wananchi clinic the director Dr. Abiriga Gino said he had paid for the license but he was yet to pick it from Kampala because of busy schedule.
Dr. Abiriga requested for some time to pick it but officials insisted and closed his clinical saying he had been negligent adding that their aim was not money but standard.
At the same clinic the Radiographer, Timoth Mugume, had rough time to explain to officials why he had no ID and why he was not putting on uniform. His plea that the uniform was wet fellow on deaf ears.
The story at Ngomokwe Nursing home was not different from that of Wananchi clinic as it had no current license except the one they got in 2014.
The comprehensive nurse found at the clinic, Vincent Ikiriza, also had rough time with the enforcers. He reveled that he at times handles laboratory which he was not trained in.
The Allied Health Professional council regional coordinator for Bunyoro region, Fred Oyesigye, who was part of the team said they will continue the operation of closing substandard clinics in the region to protect Ugandans from substandard health services.
