MASINDI DISTRICT COUNCIL REJECTS AGE LIMIT REMOVAL

Masindi district council has passed a resolution rejecting the Magyezi bill that intends to remove presidential age limit cap by deleting article 102(b) from the constitution of Uganda.
In case the constitution is amended, president Museveni will qualify to again contest for another term in office thus becoming a life president.
The motion rejecting life presidency was yesterday presented by the Masindi district male youth councilor, Wamani Joseph.
The motion read in part, “moving Masindi district local government
council pass a resolution recommending parliament of Uganda to protect
and keep intact article 102b of the constitution of the republic of
Uganda”.
Out of the 21 councilors 16 supported the motion, 4 abstained and said
they need more time to consult the electorates and 1 never attended
the meeting.
After conducting a secret ballot election, the district Speaker; Moses Kiirya declared the position of the district
The meeting declared the position of the district in support of the motion to reject all plans to tamper with the Article 102(b) of Uganda’s constitution.
Before the election, the District speaker suggested that councilors should
consult their voters before debating the motion but the councilors objected the idea saying there was no need for them to do
consultations because they spend most of their time with the
electorates and they know their views about the matter.
Fredrick Banage, a resident of Karujubu Division, in Masindi
municipality welcomed the idea noting that even other districts should
emulate the same.
Hakim Kabagambe; a resident of civic ward in Masindi municipality
hailed the councilors for taking a strong decision saying
that Banyoro had been taken for granted because they don’t decide for themselves.
