In Masindi—
Masindi District local government has failed to recover the 830 million shillings which was given to 112 youth groups under the Youth Livelihood Programme from the financial year 2014 to date.
This was revealed by the district secretary of finance Ms Salama Kugonza while addressing journalists during a press conference at the district board room today.
Kugonza said out of the 830 million shillings, only 155million shillings has so far been recovered. This stands at 17 per cent which Kugonza said is still poor.
The money was given to 1381 beneficiaries of who 505 are females and 816 are males. 112 projects were funded across the district.
She adds that if the district fails to recover the money, the district may fail to get more money for the youths under the YLP.
As such, Kugonza said there was need for concerted efforts by all committees formed to recover the money through the mechanisms put in place.
She noted that as a district they are still doing badly in recovery noting that this has prompted them to put a committee to enable them recover the funds.
The youth in district have been complaining that they may not manage to repay the money due to the fluctuation of maize price that is on-going.
