MASINDI DISTRICT HEADQUARTERS CLOSED AS MORE STAFF TEST POSITIVE FOR COVID 19

Masindi district headquarters have been closed following an increase in COVID 19 cases among staff.

The headquarters were closed on Wednesday morning after most of the district workers including civil servants and politicians tested positive for the corona virus in a rapid test conducted on Monday.

Speaking to our reporter, Phiona Sanyu the Chief A dministrative officer Masindi said that the temporary closure is aimed at enabling the fumigation of the offices after their occupants also tested positive for the virus.

She however clarified that after fumigating, the offices would reopen and work will resume. Sanyu revealed that she had set January 5^th 2022 as the deadline for all the workers at the headquarters to test for COVID or be denied access to the premises.

Brian Mugisha, the assistant district health officer yesterday revealed that the district has started a mandatory Covid-19 rapid test in all government facilities in the district to ascertain the prevalence rate in the district.

He expressed fear that the cases could be much more than expected since most of the people who tested positive had not shown symptoms before.

The district secretary for health Sylvia Karungi confirmed the reports when contacted revealing the corona virus positivity rate at the district headquarters could even be higher than the reported percentage.

She added that due to the high numbers of positive cases, some offices have been closed and the officers are working from home or online.
