Masindi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Godfrey Nyakahuma has written to state house anti-corruption unit and Inspectorate of government requesting them to investigate the alleged diversion of 198 million shillings by the district leaders.
Nyakahuma revealed the development while talking to www.mknewslink.com at his office.
Nyakahuma, who was armed with a report which he said, was written by the district chief financial officer David Baguma told www.mknewslink.com that the then district Chief administration officer (CAO) Christopher Okumu diverted the money that was meant to facilitate extension workers in the district to do their work in 2017/18
According to the letter dated 28th September 2018 written by the Chief Finance officer David Baguma to the CAO explaining how the money was spent, this was a conditional grant meant to facilitate extension workers.
However, only 57 million shillings was paid to the extension workers then the other portion was used to buy fuel for the executive, facilitate council and sectoral committee meetings and the rest was used to pay LCI and II ex-gracia allowances.
Nyakahuma added that this has prompted him to write to the head of the state house anti-corruption unit and the IGG asking them to investigate the matter.
Nyakahuma said that he wants the two entities to investigate to find out who used the money and for what purposes then take action against those who will be found responsible.
When contacted Cosmas Byaruhanga, the Masindi district LCV chairperson described the allegations as false and baseless explaining that the matter in contention is never indicated anywhere and it has never surfaced in their audit reports.
Responding on the RDC’s action, Byaruhanga expressed happiness over what the RDC has done noting that this will help them unearth other government funds which could have been misappropriated.
