Katusiime explained that they are now relying on blood from Kiryandongo hospital but Kiryandongs administration is not allowing them to take blood outside but to transfer patients up to Kiryandongo hospital adding that this has a big cost implication since there is also shortage of fuel.
He said that the most affected departments are the maternity ward, childrens ward, male ward and the females ward.
He explained that every two months they receive new stocks of blood adding that this time he has no hope whether they will get blood or not.
Dr. Katusiime also noted that they have run short of hepatitis B vaccine. He attributed this to the over whelming number of the people they are receiving across the district who are turning up for immunization.
Elizabeth Kahwa a resident of Kihaguzi village said that it is too costly for them to buy drugs, yet they pay tax on the daily basis.
James Tumusiime a resident of Kijura cell in Masindi town said in order to have enough blood, government should put in place regional blood banks.
