MASINDI LOCAL GOV’T OPENS CASE AGAINST YLP DEFAULTERS

Masindi district local government has filed a case against 107 youth groups in an effort to recover money from Youth Livelihood Program (YLP) defaulters in the district.
This has been revealed by Vincent Businge, the District Community Development Officer (CDO) who also doubles as the district YLP focal person during a press conference at the district headquarters today.
Businge revealed that Masindi district gave out over 847 million shillings to 112 youth groups with over 1300 beneficiaries across the district but 195 million shillings had been recovered from the groups by yesterday.
He added that of the 112 groups, only 5 groups had fully paid back the money they got.
The groups are: Kisanja produce buying and selling in Pakanyi, Rubbani deport group in Nyangahya division ,Kihaguzi produce buying and selling group in Pakanyi , Ekarakaveni ox traction in Budongo and Miduma bull fattening group in Kimengo sub county.
Businge said that the district yesterday opened up cases against the remaining groups at Masindi police station where each group has been charged with different offences including embezzlement.
However Businge noted that the district leadership is still carrying out operation to recover the money from the groups.
He revealed that during yesterday’s operation, they arrested the deputy speaker Kimengo Sub County Jaclyn Tibamanya who member of Kididima- Karwaara bull fattening group in Kimengo sub county, plus three members of Kyangamwoyo maize growing group in Kimengo Sub County that is being demanded 5.7 million shillings that it received in 2015/16 financial year.
Masindi district police- community liaisons officer Peter Mukasa said that the group members have been charged with misappropriating government funds.
