MASINDI MARKET VENDORS IRKED BY GARBAGE

Masindi central market vendors are at a risk of contracting cholera
over increased garbage inside the market.
James Musamya; a vendor at central market, says that they are at a
risk of contracting dangerous diseases like , Diarrhea among
others due to the poor hygiene in the market noting that people dump
there every kind of garbage.
He added that some people dump aborted feotus at the garbage
collection point adding that at the moment the skip is full and the
rubbish are littered all over the market.
Charles Bamanya, also a vendor at Masindi central market says that
Masindi municipal has taken one week without removing the garbage from the collection point and yet they pay money every day.
Shaban Businge, also a vendor says that all customers have ceased from
buying items from due to the poor hygiene in the market.
He adds that the skip they use is full to capacity and the water
coming out of it has started flowing around the market something
that has put their lives in danger.
Hadija Amooti, also a vendor says that they want the skip
to be relocated to a different place arguing a garbage
collection points should not be put at the entrance of the market.
She also says that as vendors they pay 7000 shillings per month but no
service is rendered to them adding that this month they are not going
to pay the market dues unless they see services.
Having seen the situation worsening, yesterday TASO Masindi team went to
the Masindi central market and collected some garbage as a corporate social responsibility.
Peninah Naiboka the programmes manager TASO Masindi Centre says that they did this after seeing the situation running out of hands.
