MASINDI: MOBILE MONEY FRAUDSTERS BEATEN TO COMA

Two men alleged to be mobile money fraudsters are nursing wounds at Masindi general hospital after they were beaten to coma by an angry mob in Ihungu Nyangahya division in Masindi Municipality for allegedly defrauding 1.5 million shillings from a mobile money operator.
The suspects were trailed by boda boda riders as they tried to escape from Kijura trading center where they had defrauded a mobile money kiosk operator.
They were trailed for over three miles before they were captured in Ihungu along Masindi-Hoima road where they survived being lynched by the angry mob.
However, police arrived at the scene and rescued the suspects who were found severely bleeding.
Wilson Bateganya the mobile Money operator who was defrauded explained that they requested for his phone to dial their number and in the process they transferred the money to their account.
‘’I realized it after and informed the boda boda riders who trailed and arrested them,’’ he explained.
According to Tom Captain, an eyewitness, the suspects who were on a Bajaj motorcycle claimed to be residents of Hoima.
‘’They were trailed by boda boda riders, they nearly survived death, the angry mob wanted to burn them but they were rescued by police,’’ he explained.
The Masindi Central Police Station In-Charge ASP Akandwanaho, said the suspects who were found in critical condition are admitted at Masindi Main hospital under the watch of Police men.
‘’They were rescued by police and they are admitted at Masindi general hospital in critical condition,’’ he explained.
The police officer asked the mobile money operators to desist from sharing their phones with the customers during transactions to avoid such incidents.
By the time of publication the victims had not yet refunded the money.
