In Masindi—
Masindi municipal councilors are divided over 23 million shillings which was refunded by the two officials who were interdicted at Karujubu division in Masindi municipality.
Early this year, the ministry of Internal affairs sent 91 million to Karujubu division meant for the titling of Kabalye police training school land.
However it was later discovered that out of 91 million shillings only 45 million was deposited on the division accounts which resulted into interdiction of the division town clerk Patrick Asiimwe and the accountant Faith Katusabe over putting half the money to their private accounts.
The councilors’ division erupted after the leader of government business Zaina Byenkya told council that the money which had been diverted by the two officials had been refunded in phases.
Siliver Asiimwe, the councilor for Bigando ward, demanded that the recovered money be used to construct the roads which are in poor state in the municipality.
In his response,Leonard Tumusiime, noted that the money which was recovered was shared between Karujubu division and Masindi Municipality each taking 23 million adding that the money has already been used on council activities.
Ismail Harunah, the councilor for civic ward faulted the town clerk for spending the money without the council’s consent. He also tasked the town clerk to tell the council the activities were the money was spent in vain.
