Masindi Resident District Commissioner, Godfrey Nyakahuma, has apologised to Masindi women leaders for blocking the training which had been organized by Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE) in November last year.
In November last year, Nyakahuma blocked Winnie Kiiza the former leader of opposition in parliament from attending a training organized by FOWODE where she was the main facilitator and called off the training on grounds that it was an illegal assembly.
The training had been meant for women leaders from the sub counties of Kimengo and Budongo and the district councilors to train them on how to handle women leadership.
The blocking of Winnie Kiiza from addressing the women leaders never went well with the aggrieved councilors. This forced them to petition the Minister for presidency Esther Mbayo demanding for Nyakahumas transfer.
The district councilors also went ahead and brought the matter to Masindi district council in December last year requesting it to pass a resolution recommending for his transfer but the district council speaker Moses Kirya guided that he would instead invite him to council which was held today to defend himself on the accusations put against him.
Today Godfrey Nyakahuma the Masindi RDC appeared before the council to defend himself and apologised to the women leaders for what he did saying that it is his fault for not sensitizing women to understand the different legal regimes that work hand in hand with security.
But Nyakahuma maintained that he shouldnt be blamed for closing the meeting since police took the lead arguing that for him he just provided a lift to the police officer.
He also indicated that as security they would not allow Kiiza to engage with women leaders since she was involved in registering members for New Formation under Mugisa muntu adding that nobody knew about her coming in Masindi.
However, the chairman LCV Masindi Cosmas Byaruhanga warned the RDC to stop being used by the state minister for Bunyoro affairs Ernest Kiiza to divide Masindi district council since they have started a new chapter.
