Residents block Hoima- Masindi road over bad state
Residents of over five villages in Bwijanga sub county in Bujenje
county Masindi district have today blocked Hoima- Masindi road over it
being in poor state.
The villages include; Kiina, Bujenje, Bikonzi, Rukondwa, Karungu,
Kichandi among others.
The residents blocked the road today morning putting transport along
Masindi road at a standstill. Vehicles travelling along Masindi Hoima
road were forced to divert to other routes like Kinyra and other
feeder roads.
They excavated a big pit in the middle of the road, planted in bananas
and also put logs of trees.
Masindi –Hoima road is part of Kigumba-Kyenjojo road which is supposed
to big upgrade. In February this year, Ruhakana Rugunda the Prime
Minister commissioned the construction Bulima –Kigumba road part of
the road which was blocked today but up to now nothing has been done.
One of the factors which could have led to the delay of the
construction of the road is the contractor failing to agree with the
land lords of murrum over low pay.
The residents explained that they did this after seeing that the
situation had run out of hands.
Dorcus Nsekanabo, a resident of Bikonzi village in Bwijanga Sub County
noted that they are suffering a lot while trying to access services in
Masindi town noting that they are tired of the hardships they are
facing in this government.
