MASINDI SUGAR CANE FARMERS SUSPEND BAN ON SUGAR CANE SUPPLY TO KINYARA

Masindi sugarcane farmers have resolved that they should resume supplying their sugarcane to Kinyara Sugar Ltd.
This resolution was reached during the Masindi district security committee meeting held last evening at the Resident District Commissioner (RDCs) office aimed at solving the impasse between sugarcane farmers and the management of Kinyara Sugar Ltd.
The meeting was attended by the board members for Masindi sugar cane outgrowers limited, RDC,DPC , Kinyara management among others.
The meeting followed a recent resolution by the out growers under their umbrella body-Masindi Sugarcane Growers Association Ltd (MASGAL) to suspend the supply of sugarcane to the millers.
During the security meeting , it was resolved that the out growers should resume supplying sugarcane to the sugar millers.
The general manager of Kinyara Sugar Ltd, Ramalingham Ravi said the two parties had agreed that the out growers continue supplying sugarcane to the millers as price negotiations continue.
The MASGAL chairman, CosmasByaruhanga, who attended the meeting with his entire board members, said they had not agreed on two issues including final payment and that of sugarcane price for the 2018/19 financial year. He said they agreed to lift the ban due to the high risk involved in losing sugarcane during this dry season.
The Masindi RDC Godfrey Nyakahuma who chaired the meeting,called upon the people of Masindi district to calm down as negotiations between the two parties continue until a final position is reached.
