MAWANDA VS MP MARTIAL: JUDGMENT RE-POSTPONED

IN MBARARA—
The long awaited judgment of Igara East election petition in Bushenyi district filed by Micheal Mawanda Maranga against Martial Andrew the current MP was re-postponed today Friday Oct.14, 2016 without a reason.
Justice Dr. Winfred Nabisinde sent a message to lawyers of two parties yesterday that she was unable to deliver the judgment today as earlier scheduled.
She instead fixed Tuesday Oct. 18, 2016 as the day when she will deliver the long awaited election petition judgment.
Justice Nabisinde first fixed Sept. 30, 2016 as the judgment day but she postponed to today Oct. 14 which was still re-postponed to next week Tuesday.
According to lawyers of Mwanda and Mp Martial, hearing of this petition ended in July this year but in October, there is no verdict.
Former Igara East MP Micheal Mawanda petitioned Mbarara high court challenging the victory of Martial Andrew. He told court that Martial’s election was full of stealing, intimidation by security operatives, closing polling centers early among other evils.
Mawanda was represented by Frank Kandiho and Owen Murangira whereas Martial was represented by Alexander Kibandama and Mwebembezi Baingana.
Mawanda presented 30 witnesses to prove that his victory was robbed by Martial Andrew. His opponent also paraded over ten witnesses to prove that e never stole Mawanda’s votes.
