In Mbarara—
Contractor of Sango Bay Technical Engineering Company Limited is on spot for allegedly producing shoddy work at Bugaashe 1 Primary School in Nyakayojo Mbarara city.
The contractor was contracted last year to construct a three classroom block at Bugaashe 1 Primary School at cost of 97 million shillings.
However, as authorities from Mbarara city Council led by the City Mayor Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi were yesterday monitoring the work, they discovered that the Contactor delivered shoddy works.
Jedius Karetwa the Deputy Inspector Of Schools, Mbarara city told www.mknewslink.com that the contractor was given 70 million UGX and he was to get the balance in June last year but has since disappeared from the construction site without completing the work.
Karetwa said that Kakyebezi’s term found out that the constructed block had started to develop cracks on the floor.
He added that the contractor’s carelessness has caused confusion at the school since primary seven pupils study with those of Primary six while those of Primary five study with those of Primary four as well as primary one with nursery due to lack of space.
Speaking to Journalists, the Lord Mayor Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi vowed to arrest the contractor Sango Bay Technical Engineering Company Limited.
He further warned Contractors who are awarded contracts of Government projects to be serious otherwise they risk being apprehended.
Kakyebezi further cautioned the City Education Department to continue inspecting schools to see how they are observing Standard Operating Procedures and how they reopened.
