MBARARA: 3 POLICE OFFICERS ARRESTED OVER EXTORTION, COLLEAGUE STILL ON RUN

Police in Mbarara city have three police officers in detention attached to Mbarara central police station over extortion.
The three have been identified as No. 24652 Sargent Harriet Wachemba a Traffic police officer who commands the check point, No.57051 PC Hassan Katushabe and No 56765 Ezra Akatuhurira.
According to Samson Kasasira the Rwizi region police mouthpiece the trio was arrested on the orders of RCC Lt. Col. James Mwesigye after he got complaints from Boda boda riders that police officers at Nyamitanga check point along kabala Mbarara road were extorting money from motorists.
ASP Samson Kasasira told www.mknewslink.com that the RCC and his team visited the area and arrested Ezra who later confessed that indeed they have been taking money from motorists.
Kasasira narrated that DPC, OCCID and OC station Mbarara Central Police station who had been called by the RCC intervened and arrested two others; Harriet and Hassan while their colleague NO.51666 PC Katumba Joseph is still on the run as inquiries into the matter take course.
