MBARARA ACCIDENT LEAVES ONE DEAD, SEVEN INJURED

One person has been confirmed dead in a truck accident on Ntare Road today morning, as Mbarara Municipality livened up for Good Friday.
The accident involved a heavily loaded Fuso lorry registration number UAH 865R which veered off the road as it sped down to Nyeihanga market in Rwampara county, Mbarara district.
According to the Rwizi Regional Traffic Officer ASP Opus Justin, the accident which happened at 6:50 in the morning left one person dead while 7 were severely injured and rushed to Mbarara regional referral hospital.
The deceased was identified as 20 year old Majidu Nturumye; a resident of Isingiro district.
The Traffic Officer confirmed to the www.mknewslink.com reporter that the truck was carrying market vendors and their merchandise to the market.
“We arrived at the scene and managed to pick 8 people who were rushed to the referral hospital and on arrival, one of them died,” Opus said.
He added that they were yet to establish the cause of the accident, but noted that the truck suddenly veered off the road into a trench on Ntare Road after Markhan Singh Street.
He confirmed that the driver took off and the lorry was towered to Mbarara police station for further investigations.
