MBARARA CENTRAL MARKET FINALLY COMPLETED, TO BE COMMISSIONED MARCH 2022

The 21 billion shillings newly constructed Mbarara Central Market is finally ready for Commissioning after several setbacks.
The minister for local government Rapheal Magyez has confirmed that the market will be commissioned on 21st March 2022 and the vendors currently operating at Independence Park will be given first priority.
While assessing the He pledged the Government will allocate funds to install a stand by generator at the market before its commissioned.
The minister further warned rich men that would like to forge their way into accessing the market to forget it since he will personally handle the list of vendors supposed to access the market.
Daniel Kugumisiriza ROKO Construction Company limited resident engineer noted that so far the Market is at effect liability stage where vendors can be allowed to access the market and engineers will put together remaining works later.
Roko was awarded the contract in 2018 under the World Bank Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development Program (USMID).
However, the 21 Billion Shillings market has faced several setbacks that included the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, expiration of the contractors’ performance guarantees among others.
