The minister of local government Rapheal Magyezi has interdicted Mbarara city Commercial Officer James Agaba and his assistant Mutahi Donati on allegations of Soliciting bribes from Mbarara Central Market Vendors to allocate them Stalls.
Minister Magyezi told the media that he got 64 phone calls from Mbarara Central Market Vendors complaining about how the duo allegedly solicited bribes from Mbarara Central Market Vendors.
The local government Minister thus ordered the town clerk Abirebe Arthur to stop the duo from accessing their offices starting Monday.
Magyezi further said that investigations will be opened to ascertain whether it’s true the two solicited money from vendors before allocating stalls to them.
Minister Magyezi also banned the operations of Mbarara Central Market Allocation Committee on allegations that they also have a hand in soliciting bribes from Mbarara Central Market Vendors.
Winnie Begumya one of the vendors told the Minister that the allocation of stalls was poorly done as Vendors who gave in bribe were allocated to level One and two of the central market while those who never paid in bribes were thrown to level four of the market.
She added that most of her colleagues who were allocated to Independence Park in 2018 to allow the construction of central market, are missing out on the lists and thus asked the minister to halt the allocation process of stalls.
