MBARARA CITY NORTH, SOUTH LEADERS THREATEN TO SUE MAYOR KAKYEBEZI OVER UGX.326MILLION REMITTANCE FUNDS

Leaders from the two divisions of Mbarara city North and South in Mbarara City have threatened to drag Mbarara city Mayor Robert Mugabe kakyebezi and his counterpart, the city clerk Assy Abireebe Tumwesigire to court if they fail to allocate the two divisions ugh.326million as statutory remittance funds of 50% local revenue collection.
This comes after the leadership of Mayor Robert Mugabe kakyebezi and the city clerk Assy Abireebe Tumwesigire failed to allocate the said amount of money demanded by the two divisions.
www.mknewslink.com has learnt that Mbarara city North demands ugx.96million whereas the south division demands ugx.230million.
By law, division councils are mandated to collect local revenue and other taxes from the ground and send the money to the city council or mother council, then the city council sends the money to the Ministry of Finance, which finally sends it back to the city council.
According to information we have, Mbarara city south demands about Shs230m while the north division about Shs96m.
Leaders from the two divisions led by the division mayor’s that is Gumisiriza Kyabwisho of North division and Jomo Mugabe note that they have wrote letters to the city council but nothing has come out besides fruitless meetings held with the city leadership.
Jomo Mugabe told mknewslink.com that Mbarara city council has failed to remit their money for now one year which they are supposed to get off the local revenue collected. He said that this has crippled service delivery in his division.
Didas Muhanguzi the town clerk Mbarara city south division said the implementation of government projects has been greatly affected.
