Peter Turyamuhaki the principal Community Development Officer says there are only 6 known organizations that are helping in removing children off the streets noting that these help them in rehabilitating and resettling them.
He says as the number of street children increases in Mbarara city the organizations to help the government rehabilitate and resettle them are a few.
Speaking at the international day of the street Child held at Mayors gardens on tuesday, Turyamuhaki says they are optimistic that the process will see more than 10 organizations register which will be a relief since the department has a meager budget of three million shillings annually.
Henry Mushabe the Senior Probation and social welfare Officer expressed worry over the increasing number of abandoned children.
He says the department registers two children between the ages of 1day to 10 years every week.
