MBARARA: CUSTOMER ROBBED OF 10M INSIDE DFCU BANK, MANAGER DENIES POLICE OF CCTV FOOTAGE

Police in Mbarara are investigating the circumstances under which two armed men stormed Dfcu bank and robbed a depositor of shs 10m at gunpoint.
The victim Sharif Kakooza said yesterday afternoon he went to deposit shs 10m on his account in Dfcu bank Mbarara branch and that while he was at the counter, two armed men with pistols approached him , put him on gunpoint and instructed him not to say anything but to just walk out of the bank.
The two also ordered other people who were in the bank to keep quiet or risk to be shot.
On moving out of the bank, he was put into a waiting premio and was driven on a break neck speed up to
Booma in the outskirts of Mbarara municipality where he was dumped.
Kakooza rushed to Mbarara central police station and reported a case of armed robbery.
Mbarara police said that they went to Dfcu bank but the bank manager declined to handover the CCTV footage to police for reviewing to help in identifying the assailants.
The manager who seemed to have been part of the robbery told police officers that by the time of the robbery, the CCTV cameras were not working.
Police arrested a security guard who was at the entrance to help in investigations.
Dfcu bank has of recent been a den of thieves who sometimes deal with bank officials to rob customer savings.
In February, police detained dfcu bank official over an attempted robbery at one of the banks branches in Bwaise along Apollo Kaggwa Road, Kampala.
