MBARARA DEFIANT TRUCK DRIVERS TO FACE ARREST FOR PARKING AT RUTI INSTEAD OF KARAMA

The Mbarara Resident District Commissioner Lt Col. James Mwesigye has threatened to arrest trailer drivers using Mbarara Mirama, Mpondwe route who have resorted to parking in Ruti instead of Karama playground.
Col. Mwesigye’s proposed action follows several complaints from the community on the continued habit of truck drivers parking in Ruti town which poses a danger to their lives.
Ministry of works and transport gazetted Karama playground for truck drivers as a way of preventing the spread of the deadly Corona virus to the community.
Appearing before the press today after a covid 19 meeting at Mbarara city hall, Mwesigye who is also the chairman Mbarara district covid 19 task force warned all the trailer drivers parking in Ruti town to stop the habit or else face imprisonment.
“From today we are starting operations to hunt for the defiant truck drivers if they can’t stop the habit,” RDC Mwesigye added.
Responding on the continued relactancy of the community on covid 19 guidelines like washing hands and wearing face masks, RDC Mwesigye warned that starting with tomorrow 11th August, 2020 no one will be allowed in town without a face mask.
When asked about the situation in the five closed hotels in Mbarara that were closed on July ,31st 2020 for hosting two covid 19 patients ,the RDC Said that so far they have managed to trace all the contacts and they have collected the first samples from all the contacts and results were released awaiting to get tested for the second time .
Mwesigye said that the five hotels were subjected to two weeks of closure but will resume operations after those two weeks.
