High court in Mbarara presided over by justice Gordon Musiime yesterday nullified Umaru Assimwe Rubambansi’s powers of proclaiming himself as the king of Ankole kingdom.
Phillip Musime through his lawyers of Kato Frank and company advocates last year 2019 filed a case accusing Umaru Assimwe of self-styling to be the king of Ankole, holding unlawful coronation ceremony when he was not the legitimate king of Ankole.
In the absence of lawyers from both sides; Frank Kato and advocates for Phillip Musime and Tusubira and advocates for Umaru Assimwe, Justice Gordon Musiime restrained the defendant Umaru Assimwe from parading himself as the king of Ankole.
Justice Gordon Musiime also declared the first coronation by the defendant was wrongful and contrary to Article 246 (1) and (6) of the Constitution.
Speaking to journalists after the court session, Umaru Assimwe disregarded the verdict of the case by Justice Gordon Musiime calling it politically motivated and promised to announce his next move very soon.
Umaru Assimwe also called for calmness on the side of his followers who seemed to be naive on how the matter was resolved before court since the clerk to court never interpreted for them in vernacular.
More so, Umaru Assimwe pinned Phillip Musime the plaintiff in the matter and accused of conniving with the state to deny the people of Ankole of their kingdom though it is their Constitutional right.
