Anti-corruption court grade one magistrate Pamela Lamunu has charged Mbarara High School Headmaster Benon Chalky Twinomujuni and the school bursar Michael Namara of Embezzlement; Causing Financial Loss and abuse of office.
The two are said to have stolen up to Shs 200 million, which accusations they denied.
Prosecution states that Twinomujuni and Namara, between January 2017 and February 2018, while performing their duties as Headmaster and Bursar respectively at Mbarara High School in Mbarara district, stole 207,450,000million shillings meant for various school activities.
Court heard that the suspects allegedly approved and withdrew the cash without any supporting documents and accountability, an arbitrary act prejudicial to the interest of their employer.
They were released on a cash bail of 10 million shillings each by the court after presenting substantive sureties.
Their sureties included Mr Paddy Turyamukuka, who works at Bank of Uganda as Director Petroleum Investment Fund.
The sureties were ordered by the court to execute a non-cash bond of 80 million shillings.
They are to return to court on February 18th 2019 to set a hearing date since investigations are in advanced stage according to prosecution.
