MBARARA IN PANIC AS BAMUGEMERIRE STARTS HER INQUIRIES

Panic is brewing up in Mbarara municipality among the locals, business community and political leaders as the Bamugemerire commission starts the inquiries on land grabbing in Ankole sub region.
Addressing the locals, leaders and politicians at Ntare school hall in Mbarara municipality yesterday Nov.07, 2017,Catherine Bamugemerire said that the commission has reliable information that business community in Mbarara town and politicians have grabbed public land and this has caused trouble to many people in the region.
She said that all the issues pertaining to the public and private land will fully be investigated, thus asking the public to give the commission information concerning land and other related issues in the area claiming that this section is not for only Mbarara but for the greater Ankole sub region.
Bamugemerire said that a number of cases have been registered with her commission from Mbarara that business people have grabbed land and encroached on wet land and other public land, adding that they will have to explain how they acquired the plots of land in question.
“As a commission we have cases of land grabbing especially the public land and encroaching on wet lands and above all these people have been doing these with impunity and we will have to deal with all these and more” said Bamugemerire.
She said that they will have to seek information from the district land board on how it issued out double titles and why a number of people are
This forced the Mbarara municiplaity MP Michael Tusiime to inform the committee that they have been facing a number of challenges adding that as the leaders of Mbarara town this could be one of the opportunities to regain most of the stolen government pieces of land.
He said that most of the locals have lost lives and others are leaving under fear because of intimidation from the Mbarara land grabbers.
