IN MBARARA—-
There was drama at Mbarara municipal council hall yesterday as councilors turned a Bioscience meeting organized by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Technology into a protest against their town clerk Johnson Munono whom they accuse of corruption.
The town clerk who is reportedly outside the country on sick leave was last month tipped among those to be arrested by the Parliamentary local governments Account committee over the same.
During yesterday’s meeting, some of the councilors secretly distributed the placards and as soon the minister for Science, Innovation and Technology Dr. Elioda Tuwesigye finished his speech, the councilors led by Godfrey Tumusiime representing Kicwamba in Nyakayojo division stood up holding placards in protest against the town clerk.
With placards written on words like “we don’t want the town clerk, he is corrupt” among others and chanting dissenting voices, the councilors said services at lower local government will remain frustrated due to corrupt technocrats.
While talking to press, Minister Tumwesigye who said was caught off guard and surprised by the councilors move, said he would raise their concern to the cabinet and relevant ministries.
