Mbarara municipal council has for the third time failed to sit over lack of quorum, as councilors continue to boycott the sitting.
The council speaker Bonny Tashobya, who on Monday adjourned the council over the same issue, was today also forced to adjourn it for the third time as councilors failed to turn up.
Speaking to journalists after the council adjournment, the Mayor Robert Kakyebezi said that, according to the law this was the last time to call the council, as it is mandated that when councilors shun the council for three consecutive times, the speaker is supposed to write to the minister of Local government for intervention.
However, Muzamil Ssekaja the secretary for Works scoffed at councilors who rejected the council to pass the budget, saying that, they should have done this during their committees, but not at this time.
Muzamil added that, those councilors are the same people who prepared it through their sectoral committees, saying that, it is surprising for them to reject their own document.
Meanwhile, the councilors that boycotted the council who sat at Shine Sunset hotel in Mbarara came up with resolutions that they want worked on by the office of the speaker, before they can attend any other council.
